Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it

I mostly copied and pasted the same stuff into all the ones I answered, so please feel free to do the same!

When I was pregnant, the sight of disembodied hair - you know, like stray hairs on the bathroom floor, etc. - would make me vomit.

The way you describe Louisiana makes me totally nostalgic for the time I spent in Lafayette, LA with my maternal grandmother. It also makes me really glad I don't live there now.

I am a divorced mother of two kids.

Divorce has been a great blessing for me.

I am getting more and more addicted to privacy.

I wish I could have had a great marriage and four kids.

You and me both! I enjoy visiting my family, which I actually haven't done in, gosh, over six years (I really need to get over there), but I would never live there. Never.

Yes! Guacamole was WEIRD to me (it's one of my favorites now), and don't even get me started on Chinese food, even Italian and Mexican food (so glad I found my way to the city). It was all hamburger helper, bioled cabbage, cornbread and little debbie snacks up in our trailer, and blackeyed peas, buiscuits and boiled peanuts at my mamaw's house. I love all that stuf (well, except the hamburger helper)f, don't get me wrong, but I was so sheltered about food.

i have this painting on my bedroom wall...a sort of small one that i got at a resale shop in rockport, tx - it's a portait of sorts... anyway, higher above where it was hanging i noticed another nail (which is actually where i had it hanging a while back but never removed the nail). so i took the painting off the wall & hung it on the higher nail, but *way* cooked on purpose cos i thought 'why should i have everything put up/hanging straight? who decided that's the right way & that's how it should be?' i like my crooked painting.

:::blush::: I think *you* are really pretty, and I'm not just saying that because you said it first. You are gorgeous. Having the two boys kind of freaks me out, too, and I'm only just now getting what it really means to have boys because Sagacious is much more "boy" than Noble ever was. Noble is only now (at 4) doing more boy-ish type stuff, wanting the rough-housing and hard physical play, trying to pretend shooting (we made pomanders the other day and four of the cloves in sideways and called them shooters), etc. He never did this sort of thing at Sagacious' (who is doing stuff like that already) age, and I so need to get some raising boys kinds of books.

I have wanted to have kids since I was 16. I wanted to have four. I didn't talk about it very much (I figured people would think it was weird) but I had such a mama vibe I guess that two different (totally unrelated) people I didn't know very well told me they had dreams where they had seen me giving birth. In one I was floating on a river while giving birth. The girl who told me this was also the first person I ever met who wore a garter belt. She said it was more practical. I wasn't sure what she meant. When I aked her she looked flustered and told me she was allergic to nylon.

you are one of my mama role models.

Hiya. I'm a 28 year old, married but seperated mama to two with one on the way (due in mid to late June). I was a mama at 19 and was single for 5 years. Now I'm single again...or so it seems. I grew up in the states (MN) but moved to BC Canada to be with my husband. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology (minor in women's studies). I'm Unitarian (with pagan leanings). I hate squash. I'm a stay at home mama active in La Leche League, local parenting group and the internet.

okay, you know me already, but I like trying to summarize my whole self in a small paragraph.

I came out at the late age of 22, met my partner at 23 and have been with her ever since. I am honest with her to a fault. Every day I simulataneously believe I am the world's worth mother and a pretty damn good one. There are things about myself that I am physically unable to talk about but I can write about them if I want someone to know. I have wanted to be a psychotherapist for the last 13 years but am too embarassed to pursue it because of what a few people in my life and past might think.

My placenta is still in the freezer and my daughter was born nearly 3 years ago. I live in New York City! Where can I possibly bury a placenta without people thinking I am an axe murderer? I don't have the heart to get rid of it, though.

I have been nearly alone (with one other person) on Machu Picchu. Words can't describe. I was also on a train when it derailed one time.

I am fairly sure I will die at a ripe old age (knocking on wood although I'm not that superstitious). If I am in good health, I intend to get arrested for civil disobedience as often as possible.

I once made out with a former Backstreet Boy.

I have this amazing memory for what happened, who said what, what they wore and so on, but I have always had trouble retaining task oriented information - like, how to clean fish, which I had to do many times as a child, or how to drive a car. I can't tell you which pedal is the gas and which is the brake, although I have been told many times.

I love Buffy, Charmed and CSI.
Though, not all at once.
Pumpkin is one of my favorite flavors and I love the pumpkin flavored things that crop up in Autumn.
I'm not very good at "favorite", 'cause I like so many things in so many categories.
I've fully embraced the power of "and".
I consider myself a patriot.
Most people in the mainstream probably wouldn't.
My favorite president is John Adams.
I'm currently making macaroni & cheese with hot dogs for my way too wide awake daughter.
And the alarm just went off.

i still read all your public entries, but feel weird commenting...

one time you told a story about playing "restaurant" with timely and she made fake money and it was so sweet and i was explaining it to my husband and got all choked up.

i am nervous because as of right now, i have no one to stay with my daughter while i'm in labor and i'm afraid i'll have to deliver my baby without my husband. i've got about two months to figure this out.

i could eat soup every day for the rest of my life.

i have been vegan for almost nine years! i've "slipped" a few times (probably less than ten), but never more than a single occasion each time.

my daughter sleeps in a winter hat. she will not go to sleep without it. it makes her hair really frizzy.

I should have sent you a message when I joined lj and introduced myself, but I was too shy - sorry!
Anyway, I remember you from hipMama, though I don't think we "knew" each other very well there, either. My daughter Molly is 2, I am a vegetarian, homebirth, breastfeeding mama, and I miss my friends from hipMama; I recongnized your name so I friended you.
Also: I have an extremely trivial question: a few years ago, when you were (I think) new to hM, did you post a thread about "why do hipMamas marry men who don't pull their weight" and it totally exploded into this long, heated thread? Because I remember that thread really well (I thought it was very interesting), and I have it stuck in my mind that you started it. So if you didn't, and I'm just batty, you should tell me and I'll stop making that association. Anyway, I enjoy reading your journal because you seem like a like-minded mama. Hope you don't mind my looking in!
